The problem = "Marine Littering"

"Marine Littering", ie the pollution of the oceans, rivers and lakes, endangers the organisms living in it and is one of the biggest challenges for our global society. Estimated 150 million tons of plastic are already in our oceans, each year more than 10 million tonnes are added. Up to 80 percent of the seafood have its origins on land, about three quarters of which are made of plastic. If the pollution progresses in the current pace, the seas will be completely suggested in a few years. According to current studies of the UN, more plastic parts should be swimming as a fish in our seas by 2050.

Already today, huge rugs made of plastic waste on the oceans, the largest of the Great Pacific Garbage patch in the Pacific, has already been the size of Central Europe, D. German, Austria, Switzerland, Poland, Luxembourg, Hungary and Czech Republic.

The solution = "The Maritime garbage collection"

With the maritime garbage collection, ONE Earth - One Ocean E.V. (OEO) has developed a comprehensive and pragmatic concept for collection and sustainable recovery of marine waste. OEOO thus shows an already proven approach to one of the largest global environmental problems. Because plastic waste from the sea is a valuable material.

The concept prefers to collect plastic with special garbage collection ships in coastal areas and mouth areas, sort and prepare varietal areas. In addition to varietal plastic bales, which can be fed back to the recycling, energy and fuel should be obtained from the plastic waste at a later date.

The maritime garbage removal includes two different large garbage collection ships, the Seehamster for use on inland waters, as well as the sea cheek in coastal regions on seas, which in a few years partly fully automatic and driven by modern wind and solar technologies automatically collect plastic waste from the waters. The plastic waste at sea is finally brought to the refuse recycling ship Leefant and recycled there or transformed into sulfur-free fuel oil.

What makes One Earth - One Ocean E.V.

The environmental organization One Earth - One Ocean E.V. (OEOO) deals with environmental protection, in particular the water and coastal protection.

It has set itself the goal of developing and implementing a concept, such as waters worldwide can be freed from plastic waste, but also oil and pollutants.

In the multi-stage concept of "maritime garbage collection", plastic waste is collected from special refuse collection ships and then recycled or rewarded in oil. From a ton of pre-sorted plastic fillings, thus about 800 liters of oil recovered.

In addition, the association is involved nationally and internationally in the fields of oil cleaning, microplastics as well as in research, education and documentation on marine littering to achieve a change in people's behavior in terms of (plastic) garbage medium to long term.

In 2013, OEO was honored for the concept of maritime waste collection with the renowned Greentec Award, Europe's largest environmental and business price. 2016 followed the nomination for the Federal Prize Ecodesign, the highest award for ecological design in Germany.
